bye bye sun, you were good to me today.

this last week we spent the whole entire week at san elijo... the whole.entire.week,  which may sound crazy... and it was to some extent but it was mostly the best week ever.

an entire week checked out. no tv. minimal phone, email or internet. maybe just a little bit of internet...

free to be.
to ride bikes.
swim in the ocean.
let go of our fears.
live. out. loud.

we ate tacos for 5 days straight.  every kind of taco that possibly exists on the planet... we ate it.  its like forest gump taco style... fish tacos, beef tacos, chicken tacos... yes that much tacos

taco'd out we spent the last night ordering pizza (praise the lord for pizza delivery at the beach, and pizza in general)

we ate donuts almost as much as we ate tacos... vg's in the morning, noon and night.  sprinkles and maple bars and for me plain old cake donuts.  donuts with coffee is my morning of choice.

we went down to the beach in our jammies... and decided to go swimming.

we went on bike rides and stopped at yummy breakfast spots

we walked up 84974398759237509375 steps every.single.day

remi and jenner played hard and slept hard.  i would say we had the best sleeping while camping experience ever... we did stroller walks to sleep and even bike trailer bedtimes.  sometimes they just went and laid down all on their own.  they.were.that.tired.

we camped in my fav spot at san elijo {big + beach side with minimal traffic and close to the loop}.  bike riding without constantly pulling over for cars is kinda amazing... whats even better is letting the kids spread their wings and go on their own.  they rode, played baseball + soccer, tag and trucks.

remi practiced on her scoot bike, which started off with me always holding the bike while she ran around the loop, but soon that turned into her actually riding it, then to her wanting to ride it every second of the day.

she spent her first couple days playing under the canopy, staying as far away from the water as humanly beach possible.

she ventured with her auntie down to the "drop off" or the lagoon where the water is warm and the waves are nonexistent.... she decided to play in the water.

she returned from the drop off with a new glimmer, ready to face the ocean.  i dug a hole where the water would come up and fill. and soon her and her cousin winnie were jumping and splashing, which rapidly led them to the ocean.  running and jumping in the waves and causing minor heart attacks for their mommas.  and that was that. from that day forward she was a water gal. a beach babe. a little surfer.  fearless.

she played and played in the ocean each day after...

while jenner didn't do any surfing or boogy boarding like i had hoped, he did body surf. alot.  and considering his recent fear of sharks (shark week was a bad idea) i am actually shocked he even went into the ocean at all.  he jumped and splashed and kicked and punched the waves.  yes he literally punched the waves (professional air boxing status).

he rolled in the sand and played a lot of beach baseball.  he showered with his cousins and when they left he took way less showers.  he swam in the ocean for 8 days straight.  soaked in the sun and ate tacos and donuts.

we spent time with cousins + friends and played hours of bean bags, jenga & ping pong. champions changed on the daily and new challenges were had.

we had bonfires which were more smoke than fire.  we made smores with fire wood that may or may not cause cancer.  we had rolos and peanut butter cup smores and just regular chocolate ones to.

we single handedly bought almost every ice cream bar at the store.
we laughed and smiled and ate tacos and donuts and ice cream.

the cousins all surfed. every last one of them. i even tried, and was the only one in the bunch to not stand up.

there was even some water yoga...

we watched the sunset into the ocean everyday.  and when i almost forgot, remi came running "sunset time!"  we waved bye and everyday said:
"bye bye sun, you were good to me today"

in the end we laughed and smiled. ate tacos and donuts and ice cream. watched the sunset everyday and never wanted to go home.

{a homework station for the little & big dudes} and a total DIY for my little guy...

after completing my gals homework station i thought it only fair to do a boys back to school redo also...

below are some combo's i love that work perfect for a boy's homework station... making their area clean and fun with pops of color will make them happier homeworkers... or it will make you happier when you have to repeatedly check to make sure they are doing their homework... either way.

sense my little guy starts kindergarten this year (eeeeek) I thought he should get his own working space, somewhere private and quiet where his sisters antics can be limited... i set out to redo his room and give him just that... a homemade station with metal and wood and i LOVE how it turned out...

having a "pipe fitting" husband has for the first time ever,  paid off... all those days of smelling like grease in his overalls (which are mostly hideous), with dirty hair and messy boots has finally paid off...

he designed what i wanted via CAD (with minimal changes from me) using scrap pipe he cut, cleaned and spray painted all the pipe.  we purchased butcher block wood at home depot which was the most expensive portion of this project, but its also the most important.  the shelves and desk needed to look substantial and the thick wood gave it just that look i wanted.

our new homework station combos as a tv, game & storage area.  the tv is mounted on a swivel so there is plenty of desk space and the tv can be pulled out for when he has company.

I got the metal stools at target (2 for $80) and i think they are the perfect addition.

he has a small room with no storage so the extra shelves came in handy.  I was able to move some books and puzzles out of the office area and into his room.

sense we have no storage i hang pretty much everything... bikes, helmets and anything else i can find!

here are some other boys room inspiration:
